Are you looking to make a difference in someone’s life with a simple closet clean-out? SUNY Cortland is proud to promote Cortland Jr. High School in their Prom Dress Drive initiative which was credited to the dedicated efforts of Elizabeth, a current 9th-grade student, and Gabi, a 10th-grade student.
The Cortland Jr. High community is rallying together to collect your gently used prom dresses in all sizes, from 0 to 20 plus. However, this is not just any dress drive but it is also a student-led endeavor aimed at supporting their classmates and fostering a culture of giving back.
By donating these gently used prom dresses, you are not just decluttering your closet; you’re also helping to make the dreams come true for a student who is in need. Your dresses will be given a second life and allow these students to feel the most confident and beautiful on their special night. Your donation isn’t simply a donation but something that most of these lucky students will remember for the rest of their lives.
But the impact of this initiative goes beyond the dresses themselves. Elizabeth, Gabi, and their peers are learning critical skills in leadership, organization, and community engagement. By taking charge of this project, they’re gaining real-world experience and making a positive impact in their community.
So, how can you get involved? It’s simple. Take a look in your and your friends’ closets, find those prom dresses you no longer need, and consider donating them to the Cortland Jr. High Prom Dress Drive. Your contribution – no matter how big or small – will make a difference in the lives of local students.
To donate or learn more about this initiative, please contact Melody Scanlon at 315-935-7417. Together, let’s support our community and help make prom dreams a reality for every student at Cortland Jr. High School.
And speaking of clothing closets, did you know that SUNY Cortland has its own Clothing Closet called Dragons Dress for Success? Established in Spring 2019 by the Student Government Association (SGA) with support from Career Services and the SUNY Cortland Cupboard, Dragons Dress for Success provides professional clothing for students in need of attire for internships, job interviews, and student teaching. Located in Old Main, Room B-05, the Clothing Closet welcomes donations of clean, current, and professional attire in all sizes. Donations can be dropped off during open hours or arranged through SGA@cortland.edu.
So, as we come together to support the Cortland Jr. High Prom Dress Drive and Dragons Dress for Success, we’re not just donating clothes – we’re uplifting spirits and fostering a sense of belonging within our community. Every dress and professional outfit donated represents a gesture of kindness and community, reminding students that they are valued and supported. By coming together in acts of generosity, we’re not only transforming wardrobes but also transforming lives. Let’s continue to spread the spirit of compassion and goodwill, one donation at a time. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
