In a preseason scrimmage, the Cortland men’s lacrosse team faced a tough defeat against the Union College Garnet Chargers, with a final score of 12-7.
Despite a strong effort from the Dragons’ players, they were unable to secure a victory in this early-season matchup.
From the start, both teams showcased their skill and determination on the field. The game was fast-paced and intense, with both sides demonstrating their offensive and defensive capabilities. However, it was clear from the outset that the Garnet Chargers had a slight edge, quickly taking the lead in the first quarter.
Despite the early setbacks, the Red Dragon players showed resilience and fought hard to narrow the score gap. Their efforts paid off, with the score close throughout the first half. The players showed excellent teamwork and communication, working together to create scoring opportunities and defend against Union’s aggressive plays.
However, as the game progressed on, Union began to pull ahead, capitalizing on their offensive opportunities and tightening their defense. The Red Dragon players struggled to maintain their momentum, facing strong defense from the opposing team’s defense.
Despite the loss, the Red Dragon team remained optimistic about the team’s performance. Team captain Ryan Scanlon praised the players for their hard work and dedication, noting that the scrimmage provided valuable insights that will help the team improve as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“We faced a tough opponent today, but I’m proud of how our team fought until the very end,” said Scanlon. “This scrimmage was a learning experience for us, and we’ll use it to identify areas where we can improve before the season begins.”
The players agreed with their captain’s statements, emphasizing their commitment to improving and working together as a team. Defenseman John Bowen expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back from the defeat and perform well in the upcoming season.
“We’re disappointed with the result, but we know that we have the talent and determination to succeed,” said Bowen. “The scrimmage showed us what we need to work on, and we’ll use it as motivation to come back stronger.”
As the Red Dragon men’s lacrosse team reflects on their performance in this scrimmage, they are more determined than ever to make a strong showing in the upcoming season. With hard work, dedication, and a commitment to improvement, they are poised to achieve great success on the field.
The Red Dragons will have their first game on Feb 28 vs a tough opponent in the St. John Fisher Cardinals.
