The internet exploded with mixed opinions when Taylor Swift arrived in Las Vegas to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl game of the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers. Taylor has taken over the NFL this season, and the public is divided.
Swift and Kelce’s relationship went public around July 2023, and the pair has been dominating headlines ever since.
Both with their busy celebrity schedules, many fans thought Swift would have to miss out on the Super Bowl due to a concert performance of her Era’s Tour in Tokyo the night before.
But the calculations were done, and major news outlets like CNN and NBC reported that it was in fact possible for Swift to make it in time.
People were going as far as to place bets on how many times Taylor would be broadcasted on screen during the game, ranging from all sorts of prices. Throughout the game, she was shown a total of 12 times. This angered many football fans because they believe that Swift is “ruining the NFL.”
However, the NFL doesn’t seem to mind Swift’s attendance, even creating a highlight reel of sorts from her appearance at the big game
Hate her all you want, but she has generated a whopping total of $331.5 million for the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL. This has tremendously helped out the league and brought an extended demographic to watch. Studies show that because of the presence of Taylor Swift, there has been a drastic increase in female viewers watching football.
This year, the Super Bowl garnered over 123 million viewers in the United States, making it not only the most watched Super Bowl in history, but also the most popular TV program of all time in the U.S.
We’ve always been fans of her music, so the rise of her popularity doesn’t change our opinions, but when discussing the topic with others, there were mixed emotions.
Some felt angered and stated, “I’m here to watch football, not Taylor Swift.”
Meanwhile, another said, “I’m trying not to let it bother me because I love her, but if I wanted to watch her, I would have bought tickets to the Eras Tour.”
Although we feel confident about her, everyone is entitled to their opinion – some of the points were valid. It was brought up that there was seemingly more buzz about Swift attending the game than focus on the actual game itself. This is interesting because the buzz is typically all about what commercials will play or who will perform at halftime, but instead it was all about what Swift was up to.
One commercial that did gain some traction, was a Cetaphil ad that alluded to Taylor Swift’s impact on father-daughter relationships.
A lot of fans, ourselves included, think it’s pretty impressive Taylor Swift made it all the way to the Super Bowl and won it in just her rookie year!
Social media has been a frenzy of Swift’s fans (swifties) going wild over how the stars have seemed to align for the Chiefs thanks to her involvement. Her lucky number 13 was more involved in the game than most viewers probably picked out. Pop Buzz outlines everything HERE!
So, whether she’s “taywitch” or not, the football gods were definitely on her side.
The phenomenon of Taylor Swift has taken over society, and although some may feel a certain way about her, you cannot say her presence isn’t impactful.
Besides, it’s hardly the first time celebrities have been at the Super Bowl and made some kind of scene. This time it was just at a higher level than usual since she’s dating one of the top players and is quite literally the biggest star in the world right now.
Swift’s screen time during the games’ broadcasts is minimal, and if she’s generating more viewers, obviously she will be shown. Critics argue she’s taking over the whole thing while it’s actually such a small fraction of the time.
Taylor Swift’s unexpected foray into the NFL scene alongside her partner Travis Kelce has ignited both excitement and controversy among fans and critics alike. From her highly anticipated appearance at the Super Bowl to the debates over her impact on the game and its viewership, Swift’s presence has undeniably shifted the spotlight in unforeseen ways
Despite some traditionalists’ concerns about what they perceive as a diversion from the game’s essence, the numbers don’t lie. Swift’s involvement has undeniably broadened the NFL’s audience, attracting new demographics and generating significant revenue for the league.
Whether you love her or loathe her, Taylor Swift’s ever-expanding stardom has left a permanent mark on yet another facet of society. As the dust settles from this season’s Super Bowl frenzy, one thing remains clear: Taylor Swift’s influence knows no bounds.
