The Cortland Swimming and Diving team had an early start to their season in September and have been holding a strong season since against tough competition and a 3-3 record.
After completing a three-week intersession with swimmers and divers returning to Cortland on January 1st and a challenging schedule of two practices a day, the Cortland Swim team has a lot of hard work and training under their belt for the rest of their season.
Cortland proved their hard work in the return to the competitive season with two wins against New Paltz and Oswego on the men’s and women’s side and many outstanding swims at their RPI Invitational meet. Many of the divers have had many talented performances in their return as well, especially at the Ithaca Dick Camanzo diving invitational meet with freshmen, Kazuki Kadota-Browner, breaking the school record in the 1-meter.
Many Cortland swimmers and divers have been standing out throughout the season including senior Hunter Bernhardt and junior Leah Bernhardt earning multiple SUNYAC Swimmer of the Week and Cortland Athlete of the Week titles. Sophomore Kellen Dickman also earned the title of SUNYAC swimmer of the week.
Senior diver Lance Meeson and freshman diver Kazuki Kadota-Browner both also earned multiple SUNYAC Diver of the Week and Cortland Athlete of the Week titles.
The Cortland Swimming and Diving team has a lot to look forward to in their final stretch of the season.
With their senior meet and last dual meet against Fredonia approaching, and SUNYAC championships on February 22nd, head coach Brian Tobin is optimistic for the season stating, “The team has been working very hard all year with the intention of performing well at the SUNYAC championships. I am looking forward to seeing many of our swimmers and divers have lifetime bests.”
