First and foremost, I encourage you to check out our student-run newspaper, The Dragon Chronicle. In the Spring 2024 semester, we’ll be meeting each Monday at 6 p.m. Being completely organized by your peers, you’ll have the freedom to write about almost anything you can imagine. Additionally, consider exploring WSUC and CSTV, two Communications clubs that offer academic credit. These clubs are excellent for anyone interested in media and communications.
Another great way to get involved is Greek Life! Consider Greek Life as a great way to meet new people and build valuable leadership skills. Fraternities and sororities at SUNY Cortland offer a supportive community where you can make lifelong friends and gain leadership experience for your future.
One club that is highly regarded on campus is the Pride Club. Pride is a welcoming space for everyone, including allies. Their weekly meetings focus on educational and social activities related to the LGBTQ+ community. Whether you want to learn, socialize, or engage in meaningful conversations, the Pride Club meets on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Voice Office.
Thinking back to high school, I know a lot of people played instruments or sang in the chorus. If you miss your days in band class or have a passion for music, the College Community Orchestra welcomes all skill levels and a variety of instruments. Join them for weekly sessions and enjoy the opportunity to perform in concerts at the end of each semester. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a bit rusty, Monday nights offer a chance to rediscover your love for music.
Going back to high school once again, if you miss playing a sport, there’s a wide variety of opportunities on campus for you! With club and intramural opportunities, you can find a sport to play at any skill level. Rugby is a popular one, both the guys and girls’ teams’, with most of the players starting as complete beginners. Check out the full list of athletic opportunities here!
