The New York Knicks defeated the Toronto Raptors in their latest matchup last Friday.
This game would end with a 119-106 win for the Knicks, coming off the heels of some performances by their great players. Jalen Brunson was again superb for the Knicks, contributing 22 points, five rebounds, and eight assists while leading his team to victory over the Raptors. Julius Randle was also a major factor in this one for the Knicks, posting a near triple-double of 20 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists.
Besides the two stars for the Knicks, the team would also receive a solid contribution in this game from the new off-season acquisition Donte DiVincenzo. His 21-point contribution was vital to the Knicks’ success in this game and gave them the edge they needed to squeak out a win late. The Knicks were able to outlast a solid performance from Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, whose 29 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and five steals weren’t quite enough to prevent his team from taking the loss. His team fell to a current season record of 9 wins and 11 losses.
As for the Knicks, however, this win has propelled their record to a respectable 12 wins and 7 losses. The Knicks have been on a hot streak as of late, winning their third straight game in a row as well as having won 10 of their last 13 games.
After a slow start that had many fans questioning if they could continue their burgeoning success from their 2022-2023 campaign, the team has returned to form as of late and seems to be getting back to playing the caliber of basketball that fans have come to suspect from this talented roster.
Despite recent successes, the question remains as to whether or not the Knicks can sustain a high level of play consistently throughout the regular season. The NBA Eastern Conference is looking the best it has looked in years, with superstars and contending teams being abundant in the conference. While the Knicks certainly have their work cut out for them going forward, the roster remains largely the same as last season’s, with the core players intact and learning to play together more every game.
Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle continue to be the dependable stars that the Knicks faithful have come to expect while also witnessing perhaps the best season for forward R.J. Barrett’s career yet. Barrett has been a joy to watch this season as it seems he has finally been able to figure out how to keep a consistent high level of play.
Couple these three with perhaps the deepest bench in the league, and the Knicks look to be in a prime position to continue making that leap towards being a contending team that New York basketball fans have been waiting to see for decades. The Knicks are certainly a team to watch out for this season.
