There may finally be a light at the end of the tunnel for Zach Wilson.
After two years of highly publicized struggles at the quarterback position, Wilson has put forth some impressive efforts in the last two games. This comes after the most recent criticisms from New York Jets legend Joe Namath, who had made comments denouncing the team’s performance in their first few games and Wilson in particular. However, Wilson has responded to this criticism by having perhaps his two most impressive showings in the NFL so far.
The Jets played their game last week against the defending super bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The game started pretty much as expected, with KC taking a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Wilson seemed to be the player fans had come to expect at that point, a timid and confused quarterback. Then, something happened that shocked just about everyone: Wilson began to play excellent football. He would end up finishing the game throwing for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns, with an efficient 71.8 completion percentage. While the stats were certainly impressive, what was more impressive was seeing him finally seem to have confidence in his abilities on the field. He was making smart reads and seemed to make every throw with poise
and confidence. Although the Jets would end up losing the game, it was a lot closer than was predicted and the team nearly pulled off an upset against a much more talented opponent, with the efforts from Wilson being the catalyst in making the game competitive.
After a seemingly breakthrough performance from Wilson, fans eagerly awaited for the next game to see if he could keep the good momentum going. That chance came this Sunday in a win against the Denver Broncos. Although not quite as impressive as the week prior, Wilson still had a solid outing racking up 199 passing yards on 73.1 completion percentage. Although Wilson did not throw a touchdown pass and threw an interception, he still showed that same confidence in his abilities and seemed comfortable on the field.
