In the world of jazz, the Konrad Paszkudzki Trio has emerged, ready to captivate the hearts of audience members with their soulful sounds. Join us on Saturday, November 4th at 7 p.m. in Old Main’s Brown Auditorium for an evening that is sure to get your toes tapping.
Sharing a love of classical jazz and the great standards of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the trio tips its hat to those who have influenced them – Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Art Tatum, Charlie Parker, Israel Crosby, Ahmad Jamal, and Joe Pass, to name a few.
The focus of the Konrad Paszkudzki Trio is on standards – tunes collectively known as The Great American Song Book. Without imposing trite gimmicks or relying on overt displays of flash and technical wizardry, they stay true to the original musical and lyrical content of the material, with an emphasis on melodic elegance and swinging verve. The trio will play Misty for you while you have Tea for Two.
The three artists pride themselves on clean, graceful, toe-tapping execution. Listening to the trio play is a swingin’ party of sophisticated, melodic warfare, with Konrad Paszkudzki and Pasquale Grasso constantly bouncing lines back and forth over the immovable bass lines of Dylan Shamat.
Direct, simple, yet intriguing, they improvise solo narratives with a toe-tapping, nonchalant grace. While there is something humble in this approach, the attitude with which the music is delivered is one of confident passion. The Konrad Paszkudzki Trio leads the way in today’s world of swinging, sophisticated jazz. “Great tunes, smart arrangements, and terrific musicianship all in one package. Jazz lives!” is how the trio is described by John Pizzarelli.
Mark your calendars, bring your friends, and get ready for a jazz experience that will linger in your hearts and minds. Students of all ages are admitted free of charge. Tickets for everyone else cost $5 and are available in Corey Union, Room 406 throughout the rest of the week between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are also available at the venue beginning one hour before the performance starts.
