Are you new to SUNY Cortland? Do you need help finding the cheapest and most affordable food? With more than seven dining locations on campus alone and many more eating options close by, students and staff have no shortage of choices.
Dining dollar meal plans as well as meal swipes are always available to purchase at any time during the semester through MyRedDragon. Meal swipes can be used at Neubig and Bistro, the all-you-can-eat dining halls. Dining dollars can be used at every other dining location on campus. Students with a meal plan should also consider using this semester’s new addition – a meal exchange!
Sawubona-Moffet Cafe located in Moffett Center on the upper half of campus has a perfect location if you’re looking for a quick bite in between your early classes. But be sure to make it there in time before it closes at 2 pm.
SUNY Cortland has two dining halls located on Pashley Drive and Neubig Drive. Neubig Hall is at the epicenter of the SUNY Cortland campus and has a large variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bistro located in the Student Life Center is another amazing option for all your dining needs on the lower half of campus.
While I was only able to ask a handful of students around campus their thoughts on the matter, their feedback was very helpful and surprising.
Senior Gerald Gentile shared his thoughts on the best and most convenient spot if you’re into fitness.
“I personally like Bistro more because of how convenient it is. Once I am done at the gym in the life center, I go straight to Bistro for a big meal and it couldn’t be easier.”
An average breakfast at Bistro on any given day might consist of a waffle bar, an assortment of bagels, cinnamon buns, eggs, and bacon as well as various other choices. An average dinner might consist of cheeseburgers and fries, cheese pizza, grilled chicken sandwiches, smoked BBQ briskets, and countless other rotating options. With affordable prices, if you don’t have meal swipes, Bistro offers a wide variety of meals and different cuisine all day every day.
Sophomore Jamie Katz feels Hilltop in Brockway Hall has been the best for a while.
“Hilltop has to be my favorite. There are so many choices but my personal favorite is the Chicken Tender Wrap. The perfect meal to sit down or take to-go. Each year I’ve attended Cortland, it’s only gotten better.”
Hilltop, arguably the busiest dining spot, has countless options including meals you can buy off the grill, a full taco bar, mac and cheese bar, sushi station, stir fry, and many more choices. The only downside is the early close time, but it’s understandable as the amount of traffic in and out of there is insane! Hilltop opens at 9 am and closes at 3 pm.
Sophomore Kavan Tuttle was very quick to answer when asked where his favorite spot on campus is.
“Neubig is so underrated. The best start to a day for me is Neubig breakfast. I also really enjoy the breakfast sandwiches at the Library. Good prices too.”
All spots on SUNY Cortland’s campus are open during the week and most during the weekends for you to indulge in. So enjoy, and be sure to try the Chicken Tender Wrap!
