The Buffalo Bills are now 3-2 on the season after a deflating loss in London to Jacksonville Sunday morning.
Just a week before this, Buffalo put on a near-perfect performance against the once-undefeated Miami Dolphins. This win had plenty to do with the dominant defense led by head coach Sean McDermott. However, multiple defensive injuries may knock this defense back a few pegs.
During their game against Miami, the Bills lost cornerback Tre’Davious White to a season-ending Achilles injury. This was a huge loss for Buffalo as White is a monumental part of the McDermott era and a huge asset for the defense.
Other prominent players out from injuries for this week’s loss against Jacksonville were defensive end Greg Rouseau who had a foot injury, and rookie cornerback Christian Benford with an injured his shoulder. Injuries cannot be blamed for this loss, but they played a role in tearing down this explosive defensive unit.
Arguably the biggest loss for the Bills defense is linebacker Matt Milano. During the second quarter of the Jacksonville game, Milano left the field with what appears to be a season-ending knee injury. Milano is a huge asset on this Buffalo roster and if his injury does keep him from playing, it will be a loss that may not be replaceable.
The big question Bills fans are waiting for is whether these injuries will slow down this Super Bowl-hungry team. I don’t believe it’s fair to write off Josh Allen from winning his first NFL championship just yet, but injuries may play a role as a huge obstacle.
