Study Abroad this Winter or Spring!

Students have until October 1st to apply to study abroad this Winter or Spring.

About the Study Abroad Program

The International Programs department allows students to learn and understand cultures across the globe with the help and support of the office.

The Office of International Programs addresses the College’s mission to,

instill within students … an awareness of the important positive role they must play in an increasingly global society.

Different Study Abroad Programs

  • Faculty-Led Program

This program is typically held into the Winter and Summer for one to six weeks, and led by one or more SUNY Cortland faculty members.

  • Partner University Program

This program held in the Fall and Spring for 12 to 16 weeks, allows students independence while attending one of SUNY Cortland’s partner universities.

  • Internship, Fieldwork, Student Teaching or Practicum

This program is available year round, and allows to students to earn academic credit while gaining professional experience by working for a local organization abroad. Partner agencies provide support while abroad.

Winter Programs:

1. Belize: History, Art, and Culture
Travel Dates: January 3 – 13, 2024

2. Belize: Center for Engaged Learning Abroad (CELA)
Travel Dates: January 1 – 14, 2024

3. Egypt: American University in Cairo
Travel Dates: December 30 – January 24, 2024

4.  Hawaii: Ecotourism Program
Travel Dates: January 2 – 10, 2024

5. Mexico: The Spanish Language Institute
Travel Dates: December 27 – January 17, 2024

Spring Semester Programs:

1. Australia: Federation University (Exchange Available for discounted study)

2. Australia: Griffith University

3. Belize Internships

4. Costa Rica: Universidad Veritas

5. Egypt: American University in Cairo (Exchange Available for discounted study)

6. Germany: Fulda University (Exchange Available for discounted study)

7. Ireland: University College Cork (Exchange Available for discounted study)

8. Romania: Babes-Bolyai University (Exchange Available for discounted study)

9. Spain: University of Salamanca

10. U.K.: Anglia Ruskin University (Exchange Available for discounted study)

11. U.K.: London Metropolitan University

(Exchange Available for discounted study)– Meaning to be an exchange student rather than a study abroad student

  • exchange students do not pay tuition fees to the exchange institution, whereas study abroad students pay tuition fees to the host university.
  • Study abroad student enroll in the partner university
  • Exchange students “swap” with students from the partner university

What you need to Apply

  • Study Statement Essay
  • Official Transcript
  • Two Faculty Recommendations
  • Resume (for scholarship consideration)
