The 2023 fall sorority recruitment differed from previous years. A complete listing of adjusted sorority recruitment events can be found on the school’s website. The big shock is that Sandra Wohlleber left out two main sororities on campus.
Associate Director of Campus Activities and Greek Affairs Sandra Wohlleber, states, “Alpha Phi and Delta Phi Epsilon will not be taking new members this Fall and will not be holding recruitment events over the next two weeks”. This decision confused members of the sororities not only because they are above Total, the allowable chapter size determined by the College, it also goes against rules placed in the National Panhellenic Conference . Evidently, the news upset both sororities having put in time and effort into the upcoming rush.
Requirements to Rush
Wohlleber then proceeds to state the requirements in order to be able to rush these sororities, “SUNY Cortland academic eligibility requirements can be found on the school’s Fraternities and Sororities website“.
A few of them are listed below:
- First-semester first-year students are NOT academically eligible for consideration.
- Students currently on Academic Probation or Academic Warning are not academically eligible for consideration.” What this means is that students need to have a certain GPA. She also states there is a minimum cumulative GPA requirement as well as a required number of earned credit hours.
- For this group of sororities, the minimum cumulative GPA required is a 2.5.” Moving forward Both sororities Sigma Delta Tau and Alpha Sigma Alpha Took their new member classes.
End Results
Sigma Delta Tau took 4 girls and Alpha Sigma Alpha took 14 girls. The girls signed their bids into the sorority in the Van Hoesen building. Recruitment will start up again next semester in the spring. Recruitment will be a formal rush meaning each potential new member will have to rush each sorority present on campus. More details about rush in the spring will be sent out next semester.
