Following the Buffalo Bills drafting quarterback Josh Allen in 2018, the team has experienced a ton of success, becoming one of the most dominant teams in the AFC East and a consistent contender for the Super Bowl. But even with the success the team has found over the past few seasons, Buffalo is yet to bring home a Super Bowl Title.
Heading into the 2023 NFL Draft, the Bills were looking to build off the offensive success they been able to find with Allen as their leader, but also add strength on the defensive end of the field. Buffalo was able to walk away from the 3 day NFL draft with 6 picks, which they seemed to have taken full advantage of.
But will their recent picks in the 2023 NFL Draft change their luck moving into next season?
Or will they continue to come up short of a Super Bowl ring?
With the No. 25 overall pick, the Bills managed to snag Dalton Kincaid in the first round of the NFL Draft. Kincaid is a top tight end out of Utah, and might just be Josh Allens and the entire franchise’s answer to what’s been lacking on the offensive side of the field over these past few seasons.
Although some experts are questioning the choice of taking Kincaid, due to the talented tight end Buffalo already has—Dawson Knox— I believe Kincaid just offers Allen more talent to work with. Kincaid recorded over 170 catches as a college football player, and in my opinion is just another person on the field who can help Allen execute on plays, and allow the Bills offense to find even further success.
Moving into the 2nd Round, the Bills took O’ Cyrus Torrence, a guard out of Florida, who was considered to be one of the top offensive line prospects this year. Although falling into the 2nd Round of picks, Torrence is a versatile player who is more than capable of offering strong protection for Allen.
Now for where Buffalo needs to show improvement— the defensive end— the Bills took Dorian Williams—in the 3rd round— linebacker out of Tulane. Williams recorded over 130 tackles last season alone, and has the possibility to be a key player for Buffalo, especially after the loss of Termaine Edmunds.
In the 5th round the Bills also added wide receiver Justin Shorter, a former Florida Gator to the roster. As well as two 7th round picks, Nick Broeker—another guard— and Alex Austin, a center back. Buffalo also holds 10 picks for next year’s draft.
Overall, the Buffalo Bills had a successful 2023 draft, and managed to cover many areas where the team has been showing signs of weakness. Heading into this upcoming season, the Bills are expected to dominate the AFC yet again, and hopefully their new talent can help Allen and the entire team bring home a Super Bowl Title.
