This summer add the historic Saratoga Springs to your travel bucket list. Saratoga is a well-known town with so many activities to choose from. Founded in 1776, Saratoga Springs has much to offer including but not limited to the Saratoga Race Course, horses, the mineral springs, fine dining, parks, shopping, and SPAC.
Outdoor Activities
In the summer months, everyone wants a chance to soak up some sun. Saratoga is great because it has so many outdoor activities to choose from. If you just want to walk around for the afternoon, go to the Saratoga Spa State Park! Within this park there are many trails, historic museums, and the Roosevelt baths and spa. If you just want to take a quick stroll, head to downtown Saratoga and walk through Congress Park. This park while on the smaller side of things features a carousal, drinking springs, and many historic statues along the trail.
Along with the parks there is also Saratoga Lake. You can rent boats, kayaks, paddle boards and more for the day. Saratoga is also a short drive to Lake George, which has many public beaches and outdoor activities.
Horses
Saratoga Springs is most famously known for its historic horse racing culture. Some families only come to Saratoga during the racing season to enjoy the thrill of the track. Spending a day at the track is always an experience. You can dress up in fancy clothes or just go in shorts and a t-shirt. Inside the track there is tent shopping, food trucks, bars, and of course betting on horses!
Another place to visit is the Saratoga Racino. In this facility there is all types of gambling. It combines a casino with harness track horse racing!
Dining
While known mostly for horse racing, Saratoga also has a roaring night life in the summer. Goodluck getting reservations on any Friday or Saturday if you don’t call well in advance. Downtown Saratoga features almost every food group your heart could possibly desire. They have Indian food, Italian, Mexican, Greek, Asian, Chinese, American, and more! Many restaurants have invested in creating unique outdoor seating areas so their guests can enjoy the evening while they eat.
Besides the restaurants that line Broadway, there is also many bars to adventure into. Most of the bars are located on the side street, Caroline Street. Some of these bars have dance floors, outdoor seating with fire pits, live music, a roof top view, and of course a mechanical bull.
SPAC
To top off your visit, make sure to stop by SPAC. The Saratoga Performing Arts Center is located in the beautiful State Park. This venue was just redone, and vending stations were upgraded. SPAC can hold up to 25,000 people total and is home to the New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra, along with Saratoga Jazz festival and shows by Live Nation.
