One of the hardest parts of being a part of an athletic team is seeing members come and go. Being a part of a sport builds community along with so many great bonds that last forever.
Senior on the Club Tennis team Molly Gittleman can attest to that from being such a long-lasting member and being such an active role. I had the pleasure to interview my fellow teammate who has been such a passionate member and I wanted to hear how being on the team has impacted her.
How long have you been a part of Club Tennis?
“I have been a part of this club for four years, I joined the team my Freshman year. Then my sophomore year I became treasurer and have been an officer for three years.
What made you join tennis?
“I have always played tennis and it has been a part of my life. I wanted to join a club where i could meet new people and also have fun. I am glad to say that I was able to make so many friends and create so many great memories.”
What has been your favorite part about being treasurer and what made you decide to take on the role?
“My favorite part is learning able to develop skills on how to budget money and keep money organized. These are both very useful skills that I can carry with me into my adult life. I wanted to take on a bigger role in the club and make a positive for the program because it has impacted me so much”
What has been your favorite memory from being on the Tennis team?
“My favorite memory was we went to the Rochester Tournament this past semester. As a team, we went out for dinner and then got ice cream after. It was a great team bonding trip and made me have a new appreciation for everyone that participated in the tournament”
What is some advice to the incoming newcomers to the team and current members?
“It is important to be committed to the team to influence the group dynamic. It makes it so much more fun when everyone attends the events. So go to every practice and tournament you can and enjoy every second of it while you can. You will only get to live those moments for so long because college goes by so fast”
What do you enjoy most about being at Cortland?
“I love the sense of community Cortland has and how there is something to always do through SUNY Cortland or community. I am always able to find something to do with my friends and make the most of my time being a student here”
What are your plans after graduating from Cortland this Semester?
“My plans are to attend graduate school for Special Education at St. Joseph’s University on Long Island. I want to be a special education teacher.”
What inspired you to pursue the career path you want to follow?
“I choose to become a special education teacher because I have always enjoyed working with kids. I have worked at a special education school over the past few summers and I love seeing all the kids grow. Seeing all of that development inspired me to want to make that impact on children.”
Molly has had such an impact on the Club Tennis team from being an active member for so long and being an officer too. She will be missed by everyone for being such a fun energy to have at every practice, match, and tournament she went to.
“Molly has become one of my closest friends and it is so sad to see her go, I will miss her so much. I will definitely miss all the shenanigans and am so thankful for all of the memories I have with her” said Secretary Emilia Fuentes.
“I love all the great memories that we have made and will never forget our pre-tournament breakfast traditions” said another teammate Samantha Borozny.
The Cortland Club Tennis team hopes to see her thrive in Graduate School and accomplish every goal she has because she truly deserves it!
