Graduating from college can have a profound impact on a person’s life, opening doors to new opportunities and shaping their future in countless ways.
For many graduates, the biggest impact of earning a degree is increased job prospects and earning potential. According to a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals with a bachelor’s degree earn an average of $1,248 per week, compared to just $746 per week for those with only a high school diploma.
Beyond financial benefits, graduating from college can also have a significant impact on a person’s personal growth and development. Many students report feeling more confident and empowered after earning their degree, and the knowledge and skills gained during their college years can shape their worldview and influence their decisions for years to come.
We spoke to a few Cortland seniors ready to graduate this semester, as they get ready for the next chapter of their life.
Senior Anthony Bonocci shares his own experiences over the last four years, stating “I’ve really enjoyed the exercise science department and all the faculty involved. They’ve showed much support and help as they prepare me for the next chapter of my life.”
Graduate Ethan Waters majoring in Early Childhood Education states “Over my last four years in Cortland I’ve enjoyed and leaned much from my experience here. My major and other extra circular activities have opened the door for multiple opportunities in my career and life.”
In addition to individual benefits, the impact of graduating from college can also be felt on a larger scale. According to a report from the Lumina Foundation, increasing the number of college graduates in a community can lead to greater economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.
Overall, the impact of graduating from college is far-reaching and varied, touching not only the lives of individual graduates but also the communities in which they live and work. As more students earn their degrees, the potential for positive change continues to grow.
