Over the weekend, on April 15th, Womens Club Softball traveled to Binghamton University for a game. The game was an NCSA Offical College match between the two teams. The women’s team competes in the New England Central Conference Division.
This match consisted of three games altogether and was the ending of the Cortland team’s season. Each of the games played between Cortland and Binghamton was five innings. This game was more than just the game to end the season, for some it was their last game being part of this team.
The Women’s team took the time to celebrate Seniors for their commitment to their club. The seniors celebrated in the game against Binghamton were Mackenzie Blake, Emery Gibbons, Regan Goger, Victoria Kohler, Jill Palmeri, and Natalie Wunder.
For the first game, the Cortland Team started with fire with a landslide win over Binghamton. Out of the five innings, Cortland was able to score nine runs, while Cortland made sure Binghamton didn’t get a single run in.
The second game was more competitive and a high-scoring game. Cortland won over Binghamton with fourteen runs getting a significant lead over Binghamton. Binghamton could only score 6 runs in the match allowing Cortland to get their second win of the day.
The third game was a different story for the Cortland team. It was a tight-knit match between the two teams with a close score. Cortland scored two runs in the third and final game and the Binghamton had one run over them, scoring three runs in total. The game wasn’t able to be finished in five innings though due to the time limit that was enforced in each game, which was an hour and fifteen minutes.
The Women’s team was able to end their season on a strong note with two wins over Binghamton. The team had eleven conference wins in their 2022 to 2023 seasons and only had four losses. Overall the Cortland Womens Softball team placed second in their division competing against Cornell University, SUNY Oswego, Ithaca College, Binghamton University, and Syracuse University.
Junior on the Team, Lacey Kenward said, “Saturday night was a great ending to the season! It was bittersweet to watch our seniors play their final game. It was such a great time playing with everyone this year!”
To end off the season the Women’s team is hosting a Softball Clinic for the community on April 1st, 8th, 22nd, and 29th for the local youth at Trumansburg, New York. After the team hopes to have another season in the upcoming fall semester with their team and the potential newcomers!
