SUNY Cortland Career Services Office has many resources for current students and Alumni. This is an office full of Career help, it focuses on much more than just student employment help and paperwork. A huge resource for students is the office’s drop-in hours. What are drop-in hours? Do students know about the resources offered? What are these resources?
What are drop-in hours?
Every semester Career Services offers drop-in hours Monday-Thursday from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Drop-in hours means no appointment needed! The office is in Van Hoesen Hall on the first floor, Room B-5.
During these hours you can get your resume, cover letter critiqued and personal statements. Drop-ins occur in person in Career Services or virtual on the Career Services Virtual Webex Room. This service is open to both current SUNY Cortland students and alumni.
You can also check out the SUNY Cortland Career Services website for helpful tips, examples and starting points. https://www2.cortland.edu/offices/career-services/career-planning/resumes-and-cover-letters.dot
Additionally, during this time students can get a free professional headshot photo taken. The office has a professional backdrop and lighting setup. Photos are taken on students’ phones or students’ cameras (if they bring one) by a staff member. Staff will help with cropping and editing suggestions to make the perfect picture. Having a great professional headshot is a fantastic way to improve your LinkedIn and Handshake account.
If the drop-in hour times do not work for you appointments are variable upon request and based on staff availability. Appointments are also available during summer and winter sessions. Contact Career Services to make this appointment via phone call (607-553-4715) or on Handshake.
