Recently, Bud Light sent a handful of beer cans to a transgender influencer via PR, and people are not happy.
The influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, posted a video advertising the beer, speaking on celebrating march madness. One of the cans featured a picture of Dylan’s face. It was a video meant to promote Bud Light’s sweepstakes, where drinkers can win $15,000 for posting photos of themselves with the beers.
Some Conservatives and anti-trans activists became enraged at this brand deal due to Dylan being a transgender woman. America is in the middle of a war on Trans rights, targeting things like drag shows and drivers licenses, among other things. Trans rights are a current hot topic in legislation.
Many people on the right side of the political spectrum are boycotting the beer. Some artists have banned the beer from their tours, and other people have posted videos shooting the beer cans. One country artist even changed the words in one of his songs while singing live to avoid saying Bud Light.
Bud Light is a multi-billion dollar industry, and experts project this boycott will not affect their sales at all really. All companies like this have extensive teams of advertisement experts, and if they are sending free beer to influencers, there is a plan in place.
Bud Light has tweeted for the first time since the back lash, with a tweet just saying “TGIF”. Bud Light does not appear to be backing away from the marketing deal at all, or their support for trans-rights that came along with the deal.
