Over the past 2 weeks, the Cortland Women’s Lacrosse team has welcomed 4 new players to the ‘100 Club’. Whether it be 100 goals, draw controls, or total points, the Cortland offense has been on a high. Hannah Keech, a 5 year member of the program, just became the 32nd Red Dragon in the program’s history to reach this impressive milestone of 100 career goals.
April 4th, Cortland dominated Oneonta with a final score of 19-2, where Keech scored 4 goals for Cortland, one of them being recognized as her 100th goal during her career as Red Dragon, welcoming her to the ‘100 Club’
Keech, a 2nd team All-SUNYAC athlete, has been playing for the Red Dragons since 2019, and is currently in the midst of her final season here at Cortland. Throughout her career she has been a key offensive player on the roster, and continues to prove she is a strong player that can put the ball in the back of the net for Cortland.
“This accomplishment means so much more getting to share it with my teammates,” said Keech. “I would not be the player I am today if it wasn’t for them, same with my coaches. Our team has a lot of strong contributors all over the field, so reaching these milestones has definitely given us the momentum we needed to show that we are capable of amazing things.”
Even though it is now her 5th season with the Red Dragons—due to an extra year of eligibility because of COVID—Keech is not running out of steam. Throughout her career, she has always been and continues to be an offensive threat. She has recorded 26 goals in 12 games for the 2023 season, as well as 12 ground balls, and 4 assists. Keech is someone the team can count on to make plays and execute on offensive opportunities.
“As an upperclassman I know I need to be a leader on the field. I need to pick my teammates up and be a vocal leader on offense for us to see success,” said Keech.
When Keech first began her career at Cortland, she was playing defense. Eventually sophomore season, she made the switch to midfield, and is now finishing her final season as an attacker for the Red Dragons, which was a smart choice by the coaching staff. Keech is an essential part of the very strong offensive Cortland has developed this season. She is consistent in her ability to make plays for the team, and continues to prove she can put the ball in the back of the net. So far in the 2023 season she has recorded 29 points, and throughout her career has put up 136 points as a Red Dragon.
The Cortland Women’s Lacrosse team offense as a whole has been impressive for the entirety of the season, Hannah Keech is just one component to the team’s success. As the Red Dragons advance into the final weeks of the regular season on a 6 game winning streak, the last 5 by 10 or more goals, their offense looks promising. Cortland will host Buffalo State Saturday at 3:30 pm.
