The Cortland defeated the SUNY New Paltz Hawks 18-10 on April 8th. SUNY Cortland improved their record to 7-4 and 2-1 in conference play. The SUNY New Paltz fell into 5-5 and 1-2 in conference play. The Red Dragons are currently 3-1 at home and 3-3 away
In the first quarter there wasn’t much offense. The first quarter ended with the score being 2-2. The first goal was scored by Jason Chiodo in the fourteenth minute. Assisted by Nathan Nagengast.
Six minutes later New Paltz responded back with a goal to tie the game. Cortland went to tie the game a minute later for Jason Chiodo second goal of the game and was assisted by Alex Thrasher.
In the final 6 minutes of the first quarter New Paltz scored and tied the game and the first quarter ended with the score being 2-2.
Heading into the second quarter the Cortland Red Dragons came out hot and didn’t not let off the gas pedal. Cortland outscored New Platz 7-3.
The players that have scored were two goals from Jason Chiodo, Caden Yancey, Tyler Starrett, Dante Yacavone, and Klay Stuver.
In the third quarter Cortland continued with their offensive approach and came out of the gate with three goals from Clay Stuver, Trey Morris, and Caden Yancey.
New Paltz responded back with 3 goals to make the score 12-8.to finish off the third quarter Cortland scored one more goal and New Paltz scored one more goal with 43 seconds left of the third quarter.
Heading into the 4th quarter Cortland was leading the New Paltz Hawks 14-9. Cortland came out strong in the 4th quarter scoring 4 goals. The goal scorers Ryan Smith, Nathan Nagengast, Jason Chiodo, and Zach Perlett assisted by Sam Rothman.
Cortland shut down the New Paltz Hawks in the fourth quarter by only letting up one goal to make the final score 18-10.
Travis Wagner had 16 saves and 9 goals allowed, and Matt Stento had 6 saves with 1 goal allowed. Cortland outshot the New Paltz Hawks 56-49. Cortland had 4-3:00 penalties and New Paltz had 2-2:00 penalties.
After a great win against the New Paltz Hawks. Our Cortland red dragons are going to face the Brockport Golden Eagles on April 15th at 12:30 p.m. at the Cortland Stadium Complex. The Cortland Red Dragons want to add on to this one game win streak while the sticks are hot.
The last time Cortland played against Brockport the Red Dragons defeated them 14-7 last season and are looking to do the same thing on Saturday.
