If you’re a Bills fan, then you know the heartbreak that’s experienced every season when they once again fall short in the playoffs. The coaching staff and media have given the hope of “trust the process” ever since McDermott took over in Buffalo.
That was six years ago.
How long until Bills fans stop trusting the process and begin to worry about the future of their team? After a disappointing 2022 season, I think the time for concern has finally come.
In 2018, Josh Allen was the gift every Buffalo fan had been wishing for. He had a shaky start but slowly proved himself to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Allen is the leader and player Buffalo had longed for, but is the coaching staff allowing him to reach his full potential?
It wasn’t all that long ago when just finishing the year with a winning record was considered a good season for Buffalo. However, the expectations are now much higher.
Josh Allen is in the golden years of his career and the key players of this Buffalo team are only getting older. There is only a limited amount of time to accomplish more than just a few playoff wins.
Don’t get me wrong, McDermott has done wonders in turning this franchise around and making Buffalo one of the top teams in the league. Over the years, however, it’s become apparent that the team often falls short in the games that matter most. How are they able to beat Kansas City during the regular season but not when the season is on the line during the playoffs?
For this team to win the Super Bowl, Allen needs more weapons. The run game has been below average for years and nothing has been done to fix it. The team doesn’t have a solid list of wide receivers which allows other teams to easily take our number 1 receiver, Stefon Diggs, out of the game on a regular basis.
I don’t believe Sean McDermott’s job should be on the line anytime soon but there are certainly things he and the rest of the organization can do to give Buffalo a better chance at success. After the 2023 season hopefully the outlook for this team will become more clear.
