On Saturday, April 1 there was four teams ready to punch their ticket to the Championship on Monday night.
The first game of the final four was the number 9 seed Florida Atlantic vs 5 seed San Diego state.
In the first half Florida Atlantic had got off to a good start. They was knocking down jumpers, playing tremendous defense, and also slowing down a hot San Diego offense.
Florida Atlantic had Jumped out to a 40-33 lead to end the first half.
Everyone knows during this time of the season in College basketball, it is still a lot more game left so both sides is going to give it all they have in the second half to give their team a shot of advancing.
In the second half both teams still playing their hearts out. San Diego state starting trimming into that 9 point deficit, making the game good.
With under 2 minutes left in the ball game FAU had a one point lead. With multiple possessions to try to solidify the game they couldn’t. San Diego State was locking down on the defense end.
On San Diego State last possession, they held it for the last shot.
They decided to give the ball to the player that have been coming in clutch for them all season.
They decided to give the ball to Lamont Butler who had hit a mid-range jumper to end the game.
They advance to the Championship game. Matt Bradley was the leading scorer with 21 points, and all play the winner of Miami and UConn on Monday night for the National Championship.
The second game of the night was between 5 seed Miami University and the 4 seed University Of Connecticut.
All UConn fans was all excited. They was one game away from their quest to win their 5th National Championship in program history.
With the crowd cheering them on, they players took full advantage.
They knew they had a bigger team than Miami so they would not allow nothing easy in the paint with Sanogo protecting the paint.
From tip off UConn was draining down 3’s, blocking shots, protecting the rim, running the fast break, scoring 37 points in the first half to Miami 24 points.
In the second half Miami cutting into the lead cutting it down to within 8.
But within 10 minutes to go in the second half to determine a winner one of Miami key players Nijel Pack shoe had blew out.
So equipment managers was running back and fourth into the locker room trying to find him some shoes that he can wear to get back into the ball game with.
By the time they found him shoes it didn’t make a difference UConn had went away with the lead.
UConn went on to win the game 72-59 to advance to the National championship game.
Starting forward Adana Sanogo had led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Jordan Hawkins had added 13 points to lead the way.
The stage is set for number 5 seed San Deigo state to face 4 seed UConn for the National Championship on Monday April 4th at 9:15 PM.
Although, without any of the top 3 seeds playing in the Championship like expected, fans still thought that this would be a good matchup.
Both teams have good head coaches, and both teams are very defensive minded.
With UConn still seeking their 5th national Championship, San Diego state had other plans. They was trying to win it for their fans.
Within the first ten minutes of the game, both teams was trying to find their rhythm, and also trying to relax and get into the game.
After that UConn did what UConn do, they starting shooting 3’s ending the first half up by 13 points.
In the second half within 8 minutes to go San Diego state had cut the lead to within 8 points trying to come back in the game.
But the veteran Head coach Dan Hurley got the team together so that they won’t fold.
UConn went on to win the National Championship and finished the quest for their 5th National Championship in Program History.
