If you didn’t know scoring 60 goals in the National Hockey league is a big milestone to your career. As of right now there are only four active players in the NHL that have joined this elite club.
If you don’t know who Connor McDavid, is he was drafted in 2015 by the Edmonton Oilers.
The last time a person that has scored 60 goals in a season is last year from Toronto Maple Leafs star center Auston Mathews. Even though there was a player who has scored 60 goals last year it is still a rare and big milestone.
Here are some active players that Succeeded this big accomplishment.
- Alex Ovechkin 2007-2008
- Steven Stamkos 2011-2012
- Auston Mathews 2021-2022
- Connor McDavid 2022-2023
Before these two players there hasn’t been a player to score 60 goals in one regular season since the 2011-2012 NHL season.
The National Hockey League began in 1917 and since then there has only been forty-one different times that a player has scored sixty or more goals in one regular season.
During this game Connor McDavid had two goals scored in the game against the Arizona Coyotes. It was a tightly contested matchup throughout the whole game with both teams scoring one goal per period then went to overtime.
His first goal was a power play goal for his 59th goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead in the first period but later in the period the Coyotes tied the game. To win the game in overtime with 1:31 minutes left Connor McDavid scored his 60th goal assisted by star center Leon Draisaitl.
Connor McDavid is on pace to finish the regular season with 68 goals and 157 by the end of the regular season. This will be the most since Mario Lemieux. Mario Lemieux had 69 goals and 161 points in the 1995-1996 season.
McDavid scored these 60 goals in only 72 games. One game quicker then Auston Mathews.
Even though Connor McDavid has made a huge milestone in his career it will not be the Oilers franchise goal record. The person who holds the goal record for most goals in the Oilers franchise is the great Wayne Gretzky.
Gretzky had four different seasons with 70 or more goals in the 1981-1982 season. He leads the NHL single season with the record of 92 goals.
