It has been all over the news that Trump said that he was going to be arrested last Thursday. There was live footage of many people were watching outside of his home, awaiting the potential arrest that didn’t occur. You may be wondering what exactly happened.
The first issue is Impeachment. Trump was impeached twice by the U.S. House of Representatives, once in December 2019 and again in January 2021, for abuse of power and incitement of insurrection. Although he was acquitted by the Senate both times, the impeachment proceedings themselves constitute a legal challenge.
The second is criminal investigations. Trump is currently under investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and the New York Attorney General’s office for potential criminal activities, including tax fraud, bank fraud, and insurance fraud. These investigations stem from allegations made by Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, and others.
The third being Civil lawsuits. Trump is also facing several civil lawsuits, including defamation suits brought by women who accused him of sexual assault and harassment, and a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice alleging that Trump and his company violated federal fair housing laws.
Lastly, election-related lawsuits. Trump and his allies filed numerous lawsuits challenging the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, alleging voter fraud and irregularities. These lawsuits were largely unsuccessful, but they have contributed to a broader legal challenge to the integrity of the U.S. election system.
It is worth noting that Trump and his supporters deny any wrongdoing, and many of the legal challenges he is facing are still ongoing. As such, it is important to await the outcomes of these various investigations and lawsuits before making any definitive statements about Trump’s legal troubles.
