On Friday, March 24 a deadly Tornado ran rampant through Mississippi and CBS news has confirmed that 26 lives were lost and dozens of others were injured.
Sunday, March 26th, the Biden Administration released an emergency statement/declaration for Mississippi which will make federal funding available in four counties where the Tornado hit the hardest.
Along with federal funding, President Biden noted that FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Administrator Deanne Criswell has already begun to send emergency response personnel along with resources to the state of Mississippi.
This region of The United States is also one of the country’s poorest regions, adding to the people’s stress and grief.
Alabama was also hit by this Tornado and one person was confirmed dead by the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency after a mobile trailer home got flipped over by the Tornado’s storm.
Currently, search teams are going through the rubble and trying to salvage anything left behind, find missing persons, and clear the way to rebuild again.
This Tornado destroyed entire blocks, homes, offices, and anything else that got caught in its path.
The national weather service has ruled this event as an EF-4 rating. This means the wind gusts were between 166 miles per hour to 200 miles per hour. People all over the world have been offering prayers and good wishes for those who got affected in Mississippi.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves released an announcement that Mississippi is in a state of emergency and will do anything and everything possible in order to help the people who have been affected and to rebuild the state better than before.
As for the people who have lost their homes Mississippi has opened half a dozen shelters that will provide housing along with food drives.
This Tornado was on the ground and rampaging for over an hour. This is odd because an average Tornado will last from five to ten minutes and a strong Tornado will last for about twenty minutes.
The destruction began its course southwest of Rolling Fork and then continued onto the northeast to the rural areas of Silver City, Tchula, Midnight, Black Hawk, and Winona.
As the state of Mississippi is recovering from this tragedy rescue teams are still on the ground cleaning rubble from collapsed buildings and other wreckage that the Tornado has caused.
The long-lasting effects that this Tornado will have on the people of Mississippi are unknown for now but the damages were severe and it has led to over 40,000 people losing power with no confirmation on when it will be back in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
