The city of Cortland was in shock two weeks ago as a popular restaurant bursted into flames.
Around 6 P.M on March 6th, Cortland residents and students would be shocked to see and hear that the beloved restaurant Garcia’s and its neighbors would burst into flames from its roof. The smoke was visible from multiple angles, including streets such as Tompkins and Groton.
Firefighters and other first responders would immediately report to the incident and make swift timing to the area.
The incident started from the roof, where residents of apartments reside. The people in the building at the time reported they had seen smoke coming from a noticeable area.
The fire would then begin on the first floor and quickly burst to the top where residents were residing, but all residents were out of the house by that point. Everyone was able to make it out safe and no one was injured.
Officials stated the restaurant should be able to reopen soon, but that may not be for some time.
First responders were especially worried of the fire spreading to neighboring stores, as Garcias and the apartments are connected to strips of other stores.
The residents affected by the fire are going to have to unfortunately wait some time to return to their normal lives where they once resided as officials have stated. For the meantime, the Red Cross will be assisting all of those who have been affected as well as the Cortland community.
The fire had been claimed to start from water faulty and suffered major water damage, no foul play had been noticed to have taken place.
While our community will have to wait some time to enjoy a margarita again at Garcias, it’s a sigh of relief that no one was injured.
