The learning center offers free peer tutoring for SUNY (State University of New York) Cortland students. Peer tutors are trained students that are there to offer undergraduate students help and support. The students must have taken the courses they tutor and gotten a certain grade of higher in the course. All students can receive one hour of peer tutoring each week for every individual course they are taking. There are tutors available for multiple subjects and courses, however, not all courses have a tutor available.
Peer tutors are currently available for:
- History
- Psychology

- Foreign Languages
- Math
- Science
- Micro and Macro economics
- Speech and hearing sciences
- English
- And many more
Student’s thoughts on peer tutors:
Makenna Williamson, a former peer tutor and senior here and SUNY Cortland shared her experience.
“I have found peer tutoring to be an enlightening experience. It is so fun to work with students and watch the ideas click in their heads. That is my favorite part, when it all makes sense,” said Williamson.
Cassandra Bayles, a junior here at Cortland felt her personal experience with peer tutoring helped her.
“I was struggling in my biology class and got a tutor to help with that. She was so helpful, she guided me through my materials and helped prepare me for exams,” said Bayles.
