If you don’t know what intramural sports is, it is a league in which you play one game a week for five weeks of regular season play and then there will be a single elimination tournament to see who wins the championship and wins a shirt.
There are no tryouts, so you are able to make a team with your friends and get to play a sport that you miss playing.
Some sports that include this are flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and broomball. There are two different leagues you can join. All-school league which is more competitive and Recreational which is a less competitive league.
Since there are two different leagues for intramurals the two teams that win the championship in their league both are awarded a championship t-shirt for their division
Going to Park Center to go see the night games I noticed how organized everything was handled. There were three different games being played at the same time throughout the night and a person who would go court to court to see if everyone was registered to play
On the two side courts there the recreational games were being played. In the middle court were the All-School games. Each game is two twenty-minute halves long.
The people who were officiating these games were also students who are being paid. The referees were very good throughout the night making the right calls and making sure that people were doing the right thing.
When I made it to the night games, I was able to see six different games and noticed that there was still a competitive feel on each court but at the same time students were having fun but at the same time wanted to win the game.
The first game I went to was in the ALL-School league. It was really competitive and also a very high scoring game. They were running plays and you were able to see how experienced they were in basketball.
The second game I went to was in the recreational league. Even though it is less competitive than the All-School league there were students showing their talents making insane three pointers and nice assists.
I asked some students that were playing why they chose to do intramural basketball. Some students stated that they just love the sport and want to play with their friends. Some other students always wanted to play organized basketball but never got the chance to do so.
Throughout the whole night all the teams were enjoying the game of basketball and having fun without the stress of an organized basketball league.
My overall experience going to the intramural basketball games was a good experience. Seeing all of the students having fun playing the game they love to play and also seeing new talent that some people don’t see.
