What to Expect in Florida Over Spring Break
As we all know, spring break is approaching at high speeds, and one of the most popular destinations for college students throughout the United States is the state of Florida.
Florida has been a popular destination for spring breakers for many years now. It was even one of the most sought-after states to spend time in when COVID was running rampant, due to Florida’s less strict policies.
When COVID restrictions began to be lifted last year it came as no surprise that the next wave of spring breakers in Florida was going to be crazier than usual after having been locked up in their homes for such a long period of time.
Spring break 2022 in Florida was described as chaos by a lot of the locals. Because of this, a curfew was implemented by city commissioners and enforced by law enforcement officials.
This curfew was used in the more densely populated areas such as Miami beach and Panama City. Florida also has a curfew of 11 pm for all minors, which is anyone 17 years of age and younger.
Along with having a curfew on Miami beach for the second straight year residents of Florida have encouraged local law enforcement agencies to be more vigilant and visible for the duration of the spring break season.
If you are wondering why these new rules are being set in place and why residents of Florida are concerned about spring break here is some information on what has happened in the past:
Last year in 2022 Panama City, Florida a 21-year-old spring breaker from Alabama was shot in the foot. There were also over 5 more shootings reported in separate locations across Florida which all involved spring breakers.
The police in Panama City, Florida ended their weekends by confiscating 75 guns from people while also having to deal with rioting, street brawls, and a lawless weekend from spring breakers.
Overall, visitors in the states did not respect their surroundings or other people which led to unhappy residents who pay taxes for services that they were not getting. Local law enforcement wants to ensure people can have a fun but safe spring break.
Additional new rules for people spending their spring break in Panama City will include: no sales of alcohol from the times of 2 am to 6 am and no drinking on the beaches.
While all these new rules are being implemented most of them will only be applied in the month of March which is prime spring break time for most college students in America.
Over the summer these rules will not be in effect so if you feel as if you did not have the best trip over Spring break you can always try again in the summer.
Thank you for tuning in to the Dragon Chronicles and we hope you have a fantastic break!
