- Gorgers
My personal number one pick in Cortland for a sub or salad is definitely Gorgers. Located at — main street, Gorgers is one of the best underground restaurants in town. Not many people know about it, but it has the best chefs who create unique dishes with a special everyday. My personal favorite sandwich is the Hot All American. It starts with a homemade sub roll, and then it’s topped with fried chicken, a dill remoulade, tons of housemade pickles, and a drizzle of hot honey over top.
They have more than just amazing subs, they have out of this world rice bowls and salads. You can’t go wrong with a caesar from Gorgers, but my second favorite dish is without a doubt the Korean BBQ rice bowl. Shredded Korean BBQ pork is thrown over white rice and topped with pickled red cabbage, pickled red onion, and cilantro. Make sure to check FaceBook for their daily specials and stop by this spring break.
- Wild Ginger Asian Fusion
Wild Ginger is more well known in town, but it is definitely one of my favorites. It is located at — main streetFrom live hibachi shows to sushi, there is something for everyone. My go-to dish at Wild Ginger is the Yummy Yummy roll. Its shrimp tempura, lobster, and avocado wrapped in rice, wrapped in soy paper, and finally topped with fresh mango. If i’m not getting sushi, my next favorite is chicken hibachi. The yum-yum sauce is insane on hibachi and, little menu hack, if you are not into vegetables, ask for your hibachi with no veggies and double rice for a mountain of fried rice and no vegetables. For dessert, I always get the tempura banana. It’s fried banana slices drizzled with syrup or honey. Perfect way to end the meal.
- The Green Arch
The Green Arch is one of Cortland’s most classic restaurants. The Green Arch can be found at — street, and is only open Thursday through Sunday, but it is worth the wait. For some of the most authentic Italian in town, you need to drop by Green Arch. My favorite dish here is the classic spaghetti and meatballs. It’s easily the best sauce in town, and the portions are huge. Definitely enough for two meals. Everything comes with free bread and salad, who doesn’t love that. If I’m not getting the spaghetti, I will definitely be ordering the fried fish (which also comes with spaghetti). The fish is lightly fried and comes with two sides, the perfect light dinner, especially during lent.
- Los Lagos
Finally, my favorite Mexican restaurant in town is Los Lagos. Located on Groton Ave, Los Lagos is a new, cozy spot with a bar, perfect for a night out. They have all the classic Mexican restaurant meals, but my personal favorite is the Choripollo. Its grilled chicken topped with spanish chorizo, served with tortillas and rice and beans. My second favorite is definitely the burrito grande. The name is pretty self-explanatory, but it’s a giant burrito filled with all the classic fillings. Meat, cheese, salsa, rice, beans, guacamole, etc. And, the Margaritas are delicious.
