On Saturday, February 26th, Cortland Womens Club Volleyball traveled to Bloomsburg University for a tournament. Cortland competed against seven other schools,
- Bloomsburg University
- Binghamton A
- Binghamton B
- Bucknell University
- Drexel Univerisity
- Lehigh University
- Morrisville University
- Cortland A
- Cortland B
All of the teams were separated into two separate pools to compete for spots in the playoffs.
For the first pool of play in this tournament Cortland A competed against Binghamton B, Bucknell, and Bloomsberg. After the whole play in this pool, Cortland came out on top coming in first. This allowed Cortland A to have a bye-game for the playoffs.
The Cortland B team played against the Binghamton A team, Lehigh, Drezel, and Morrisville for their pool. Overall at the end of their pool of play, they placed 3rd and made it to the first round of playoffs. Their first game was against the Binghamton B team and sadly they were stumped and lost their match putting them at the end of their play for the day.
After their bye-game, the Cortland A team played in the Semifinal game against the Binghamton A team. This game was very close and came down to minor details. In the end, Cortland was able to stay on their game and beat the Binghamton A team 29-27.
After the close victory against Binghamton, next was the final game. For the last game of the tournament, Cortland was up against Drexel. After a long day of competing in the tournament, Cortland lost their winning streak after their loss of 18-25.
Overall the Womens Club Volleyball had a good tournament and worked very hard. Both the A and B teams represented Cortland well and played to the best of their ability.
The president of the Volleyball team, Liz, Serafin said “After a hard-fought semi-final we couldn’t pull out the win in the championship, but we will be back at our home tournament on March 25. Looking to take first at home.”
So if you are looking to watch the volleyball team continue to play hard, make sure to come and support them at this tournament.
