Heading to the end of regular season the Cortland Red Dragons Men’s Ice Hockey Coached by head coach Joe Cardarelli and Assistant Coach Nick Harper. The Cortland Red Dragons Men’s Ice Hockey team record is currently 14-8-1 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
The Red Dragons records on home games are 6-4 and their record on the road is 8-3-1. They currently have a .643 shooting percentage (PCT).
Despite the eight losses in the season the men’s hockey team have been playing well as a team and are looking for a great playoff run and get to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title.
They have two games left of the regular season against the Fredonia Blue Devils and the Buffalo State Bengals. Cortland plays Fredonia on Friday February 17th at 7pm at home in Alumni Arena. To end the season against Buffalo State, Cortland will host the Buffalo State Bengals at home in Alumni Arena.
After a dominating win against SUNY Morrisville Mustangs on February 11th. The Cortland men’s hockey team has momentum going to the next game against Fredonia. Cortland are on a one game win streak and are looking to continue it for the last two games of the season
In the game against SUNY Morrisville the Cortland Red Dragons outshot SUNY Morrisville 38-24. In the dominating performance from Cortland, they led 2-1 in the first period. Freshman Colby Seitz and senior Giancarlo Romano were the two goal scorers.
Starting the second period the Red Dragons came out hot scoring two goals by senior Sutter Donegan with a power play goal and Matt Jahn scored a loose puck goal to make the score 4-1.
In the third period the Cortland Red Dragons touched on two more goals with the last goal being in the last five seconds of the game from freshman Devlin O’Kane. Senior Luca Durante had 23 saves in the game and only let up one goal. Durante had a save percentage of .958
Senior Goalie Luca Durante has been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men ice hockey goalie of the week. This is his third time getting this award this season.
Luca Durante’s record is 12-7 with 626 saves. Durante’s save percentage this season is currently an outstanding .918 and only averages 2.95 goals per game.
Cortland Men’s Hockey goal scoring leader at the moment sophomore Domenic Settimo with fourteen goals. At the moment Cortland assist leaders are junior Nate Berk and sophomore Johnny Facchini. They both have thirteen assists.
This season Cortland averages 4.0 goals per game and only have given up 3.1 goals per game.
Cortland will be playing against the Buffalo State Bengals in the first round of playoffs on February 22nd at home at Alumni Arena.
Cortland’s record against Buffalo in the regular season is 1-1 after the recent 3-1 win in the last game of the regular season.
Throughout the season some things that Cortland have struggled with are giving up penalties for the other team to give them a chance to get back into the game. In the previous games they have been giving less penalties which will help them a true shot to make it to the SUNYAC title.
