LeBron James dubbed “the chosen one” due to his exceptional play throughout his high school career. Everyone had high expectation for James as he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers who took him with the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. No one could’ve expected to watch him break one of the NBAs most prestigious records 20 years after being drafted.
38,387 points scored in an individuals career was where the record stood for nearly 40 years. That’s until February 7th 2023 when LeBron James scored his 38,388th point with a fade away jump shot from the free-throw line.
Since last season when James began to get close to the record people started asking:
Was it possible?
How would this feat effect his All-Time ranking?
Would this accomplishment put an end to the ” Goat” debate of the NBA?
Well of course knowing the type of player James is, he makes it clear that he is an unselfish player and winning is his numbering priority. He always tries his hardest to get his team involved in the game first.
He said that the all-time scoring record was never an accomplishment that he had in mind entering the NBA. It just so happened that he has been able to sustain play in the NBA at an extremely high level for 20 seasons without suffering any major injuries.
This week when he came within 100 points of breaking “The Captain” Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s scoring record every game that the Los Angeles Lakers played was nationally televised in order to capture the historic moment .
Everyone wanted to see this amazing moment.
As he was reaching closer and closer the ticket prices started sky rocketing up to $7,000 just to see this moment.
On Tuesday February 7th, LeBron James had come within 36 point of breaking the all time record.
Many people foresaw what was bound to happen on this eventful night.
There was as much media as there is if it were an NBA playoff game. The stands were packed, Crypto Arena was gearing up to watch history. There were many celebrities there including Jay-Z, Bad Bunny, LL Cool J, Floyd Mayweather, Shannon Sharpe and of course Kareem was also in attendance. Also his family was in attendance including his mom Gloria James, his wife Savannah James, and his 3 kids Bronny, Byrce, and Zhouri.
The matchup was between the Los Angles Lakers facing off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a crucial game for both teams that are trying to make a late season playoff push.
After the first half of the game LeBron is now 20 points off breaking the record and everyone is going crazy on social media posting tweets about how they predict it will happen.
When the lakers come out the Locker room LeBron James briefly spoke to his 2 sons Bronny and Bryce on his mindset of breaking the record.
Once the the quarter started Lebron was on a mission. Making layup after layup inching closer and closer to breaking the record. Then the countdown came 8 points, down to 6, to 4, then only 2. Finally with 10.9 second left in the third quarter LeBron James break the all time scoring record with his signature fadeaway over Kenrich Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
James is truly one of the games greatest players. For a man who has spent more years in the league than some of his teammates have been alive for this accomplishment is only a testament to James’ longevity and inept ability to score the basketball.
