Many students find it difficult to navigate pricey spring break destinations, but it may be easier than you think.
Most college students have been waiting and intensely planning for Spring Break since the beginning of the academic year. Students use this break from classes as a time for their friend groups to get together and go travel some of the best tourist spots in America along with other countries.
Some of the most common spring break locations in America for college students are:
o Daytona or Miami Beach, Florida
o Las Vegas, Nevada
o Atlanta, Georgia
o New Orleans, Louisiana
o Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
The excitement of traveling with their friends often is stifled when students realize how much it will cost for these extravagant trips they plan. Some of the cheapest trips can cost $1,000 – $3,000, a price tag many college students cannot afford.
So how do we find this money in order to have the best week of the year with our friends? These are just four ways that can save thousands off your trip.
- The thought most people completely forget about to save huge amounts of money off your trip is the location. You don’t have to go to the most popular spring break spot to have a good time. The prices in popular spring break spots during the middle of March are outrageous. The prices of hotels, flights, food and entertainment goes sky high in these places to trap unsuspecting college students into spending their whole bank accounts in one week. Choose a location that isn’t the first choice of Spring breakers, and it can save you hundreds of dollars at least.
- The most obvious and common way is saving up. Plan way ahead of time, make a goal and each paycheck take a little money out to put towards your trip. The earlier you plan ahead the easier it will be to save the amount you need without impacting your day-to-day budget.
- Take the time to shop for deals. Don’t just buy the first hotel or plane available. Go on every travel agency and hotel comparing website you can find. Book flights, cars, hotel rooms, boats, tours, anything you can think of as early as possible. The price will often go up the longer you wait, and most things are already three times the price they usually are during spring break. It may take time and be a hassle, but your bank account will thank you later.
- Find free entertainment. Don’t miss out of major attractions even if they cost money obviously, but you don’t need to spend money on things you don’t need. The less you pay on entertainment, the more you can pay on a nice hotel or that super expensive restaurant. Go to the beach, find a free museum or local market, visit a national park, or, my favorite, make myself a walking tour. Do your research about your destination and design a tour of all the things in walking distance you want to see. This is an easy way to sightseeing, visiting historic buildings, view street art, and get amazing photos.
