Time to pull out the winter coats and boots because it is starting to get cold outside here in Cortland, NY. With the temperature dropping, we are entering the start of winter and it is time to shift from outdoor activities to indoor activities. Here are some fun activities you can do that will keep you entertained and warm from the cold.
Visit local mountain resort
For those of you that love to spend time in the snow, you are in luck! The mountain resort called Greek Peak is located right here in Cortland that is filled with a variety of winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Only a 15 drive from campus, you are sure to find a snow activity that you and your friends are all able to enjoy.
Karaoke party
Plan a karaoke party with friends! You do not even need a microphone or speaker to do this nowadays. Pull up instrumental songs with lyrics on YouTube and stream them on someone’s TV. And boom you have karaoke night ready to go.
Movie marathon and games to play
A wonderful way to spend chilly days is inside, wrapped up in a blanket watching movies. Make some hot chocolate and have a movie marathon with your friends. You can also create a game night and play board games (if you have any lying around) or fun phone games like “Heads Up.”
Bake some goodies!
Cookies, cakes, brownies, whatever your heart desires. The most optimal time to bake in the house is during the winter. I do not like baking in the summer because the oven makes my house hot, so I bake all my favorite goodies during the winter. Look up fun recipes and try new delicious desserts with friends.
Self-care night
With all the time you have spent on studying and assignments, take this wintry weather as an opportunity to spend the day doing your own self-care routine. Whether it may be a nice long shower or bath, face masks, or a mani-pedi, do something that relaxes you. You will feel so refreshed and you deserve some time to treat yourself.
Call friends and family from home
If your family is anything like mine, they are always asking “How’s life in college?” My cousin usually calls me once every few weeks to give each other life updates, but sometimes we miss each other due to our busy schedules. Take the free time to catch up with any friends or family from back home that you are missing and want to hear from.
Craft night
Get creative and express yourself freely artistically. Painting, drawing, knitting, or coloring are some examples of artistic activities that you can do by yourself or with others. You can even take this time to try a new DIY hack that you have seen on Tik Tok but have never gotten around to trying it.
Do what makes you happy
If all else fails, do whatever you normally would do in your free time. Read a book, play video games, or watch your favorite TV shows. Spend your free time however you want to. There is nothing better than having some free time to do whatever it is you desire. Whether it may be an option on this list, I hope that you find something that will keep you warm and entertained this upcoming winter.
