NYCFC Proposal for New Soccer Stadium

Holden Kelly · November 21, 2022

The New York City football club is getting a new stadium. Construction is expected to begin soon. The stadium will be ready to play in by 2027.

According to the city, this new construction project will provide more than 14,000 new jobs. As well as when the stadium is opened it will provide over 1,500 permanent jobs for New York City residents. The stadium is being built in the heart of Queens, right next to Citi Field, the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and Flushing Meadow Park.

NEWS: New York City officials have reached an agreement to build the city’s first pro soccer stadium — a $780 million project for NYCFC.

This is big news for the NYCFC because they will finally have a permanent venue. Right now, they primarily play in Yankee Stadium. But have been known to play at both Citi Field, and Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The new 25,000 seat stadium will be their new home, hopefully bringing in passionate crowds to welcome them.

The construction project is still waiting for approval, a process that takes months. So we’ll know early next year whether or not this is really happening. But New York City mayor Eric Adams is all in, supporting his city’s soccer team.

The project will cost the city nearly $800 million. It also includes plans for new affordable housing that will be in close proximity to the new stadium. It’s very likely that all of this gets passed next year, and we’ll see the very early stages of its construction at some point in the next few years.

This is big news for New York sports, as soccer continues to grow in popularity in the United States. Having a soccer team in the spotlight will bring much needed attention to the sport, hopefully bringing in new fans. Regardless, the one time MLS champions NYCFC have a strong fanbase, and will most definitely be selling out all 25,000 seats in support of their team.
