With the 63rd annual Cortaca Jug being played this Saturday, November 12th, a lot of people are searching for ways to show their Red Dragon pride. The game will be played at Yankee Stadium this year, but for those who don’t plan to make the trip, the game will be streamed on YES network, as well as a watch party on campus.
Along with streaming the games, SUNY Cortland has planned a whole week of student-related events to get students excited and a chance to show their red dragon pride. “Cortaca Week” will begin on Monday, November 7th, and continue through Sunday, November 13th. To start off the week, Monday will begin with the Cortaca Challenge, where SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College will compete to see who can attract the largest amount of donors. The winner will have the money added to the Cortland fund, and the president of the losing school will have to wear the opposite college sweatshirt. Make sure to donate to help not only raise money for Cortland but also to keep President Bitterbaum in his Cortland gear.
Monday night, (6-8 pm) the Student Activities Board will be hosting a Cortaca Pep Rally on the Corey Union steps. It will be a night of fun, allowing students to show their Red Dragon spirit, with raffles, food, and even performances by tons of campus groups. Make sure to stop by and show your pride!
Going into Wednesday, November 9th, the Party Smart before Cortaca learning exercise will happen in the Student Life Center Lobby from 12-3 pm. Stop by to learn how to safely celebrate this exciting day with health promotion interns and staff from the office of Substance Abuse Prevention and Education. (Giveaways at the end!).
Following directly after (3-6 pm) the CortaCART will also be taking place in the Student Life Center. The CortaCART will allow students to learn more about the negative effects of drug and alcohol use while going through an obstacle course.
Then later that night, stop by Corey Union for Make Your Own Jersey night. From 7-9 pm students will have the chance to design their own Red Dragon pride. Thursday night, (6-8 pm) the Cortaca Carnival will take place at Corey Union. Make sure to stop by with some friends to enjoy carnival activities like inflatables, photo booths, and a lot more fun.
The night before “The Biggest Little Game” Corey Union will host Grocery Bingo, giving students the chance to play bingo and take home some free groceries. A fun way to spend time with friends, and even save some money on groceries. And then the day we all have been waiting for, Saturday, November 12th, when our own Red Dragons will take on the Ithaca Bombers for the 63rd Annual Cortaca Jug. There will be a Cortaca Watch Party taking place in Corey Union. Kickoff is at noon, stop by to view the thrilling game along with pizza and wings. To end the week, Sunday will be the annual Cortaca Clean Up, stop by to help the community and beautify downtown Cortland. Cortaca week calls for tons of fun, and many ways to celebrate.
