With Cortaca Jug being hosted at Yankee Stadium this year, you might be wondering what fun things you can do in the area. You might be overwhelmed at the thought of being in the Big Apple and not knowing where to go or what to do. If you’ve never been to Yankee Stadium, here are some great places to check out before or after the game.
If you were looking for something to do before the game, check out the Cortaca Tailgate Party that is being hosted by the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association. You can bring your friends and meet up with other alumni and pre-game at Billy’s Sports Bar, which is within walking distance of Yankee Stadium. Tickets cost $85, which includes access to appetizers, four drinks of wine, beer, and soda. Do not be delayed because registration closes on Thursday, November 10th! For more information, check out the Red Dragon Network (reddragonnetwork.org) for more details.
Another sports bar you might want to check out to pregame is the Yankee Tavern. The Yankee Tavern has been around since 1927 and has served legends like Babe Ruth and Yogi Berra. If you are looking for a spot to eat, drink and be surrounded by legendary pinstripes players, then this is the bar you’ll want to check out. Another popular sports bar near the stadium is called The Dugout. The Dugout is one of the most popular bars in the area as it captures the beauty of New York City in their neighborhood bar. The bar can get loud and crowded, but their drinks are less than half of what you would pay for at the stadium.
If you are interested in grabbing a bite to eat before or after the game, there are different restaurants you can check out. One of the more popular restaurants is the Hard Rock Café Yankee Stadium which is located along Gate 6 of Yankee Stadium. Here you will be able to find something for everybody. Whether it may be drinks, food, or their exclusive memorabilia, you are sure to have a great dining experience here.
Not interested in the chain restaurant vibe? Then I would recommend Flavas International Grill. This soul food restaurant will have your stomach stuffed with delicious food for a cheap price. With only a 2-minute walk from the stadium, you cannot miss this mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine experience.
What’s New York without pizza? If there is one food area that New York does not mess up on, it is pizza. There are a couple of pizza spots near the stadium such as Yankees 99 Cent Hot Pizza or Justin Pizza. If you did not already know, cheap pizza in New York is some of the best pizza you will ever have. These pizzerias will fill you up and will not hurt your wallets. Whether you want to take a slice to go or stop in and dine, at either one of these pizza spots will give you the New York pizza experience everyone raves about.
If you are looking for attractions to see after the game, there are a couple of places you can check out in the Bronx. The Bronx Zoo has 19 different animal exhibits and 65 different species on display. Here you can see fierce animals such as lions, gorillas and hyenas, to majestic insects such as butterflies in the butterfly garden. They also offer animal feedings, monorail and shuttle tours and a 4D theater.
Another popular destination is the Bronx Museum of Arts. With a collection of more than 2,000 contemporary works, this museum is one of the only few museums in the city that offers free admission. The exhibitions range from photography to sculptures of modern artistic styles. One cool aspect about this museum is that you can find local artists’ work on display.
If you’re heading down to Yankee Stadium for this year’s Cortaca Jug, then I highly recommend you check out one of these great spots. Spend some time near the stadium as you’ll be able to learn more about our great baseball team and embrace the beauty of 1 of our 5 Burroughs.
