With Halloween around the corner, a lot of you may be searching for new ways to celebrate this spooky holiday, while away from home and your usual routine. Luckily Cortland County offers plenty of opportunities for students and even families to enjoy the spooky season.
“Trunk or Treat”
On October 29th from 2-4, the Cortland Fire Department and the Cortland Youth Bureau are hosting a trunk or treat right downtown on Court Street. Giving people the opportunity to show off costumes and fill up their candy buckets and even the chance to win “Best Trunk”. The Cortland YMCA teamed up with the Cortland Fire Dept. and Youth Bureau and set up a haunted house for people to stop by and visit following the trunk or treat.
“Just Chill- It’s a Witches Brew Party”
On October 28th and 29th, the Just Chill Custom Gifting By Carol LLC located on Mainstreet will host its annual witches brew Halloween celebration shopping weekend. Make sure to stop by for some shopping, Halloween treats, and even special Halloween tricks. If you go dressed in costume you will receive 10 percent off your entire purchase. Great place to stop by with roommates and get into the Halloween spirit.
Special Halloween Investigation at The 1890s House
October 29th from 6-930 pm, stop by the 1890s museum located on Tompkins Street. Tickets cost 35 dollars, and are available for purchase online, cash walk-ins are also welcome. A fun night spent doing an investigation on the 1890s house, based on spirits that allegedly used to live there. Join Dream Seekers Paranormal with special guests from The Sixth Sense Paranormal Society Til Death? Investigations, and spend the night getting spooked with friends.
Third Annual Halloween Graveyard Tour
On the morning of October 30th (10 am), Virgil Town Historian Marsha Powell will be leading the third annual Graveyard Tour in Virgil Rural Cemetery. They ask for just a five-dollar donation, and kids are free, all proceeds are used to benefit the Virgil Historical Society. The tour will give you the opportunity to hear more about notable residents buried there. After the tour, they will provide treats like donuts and Hollenbeck’s cider.
Trinity Valley Halloween & Fall Festivities
Happening all day on Saturday, October 29th (9 am-5 pm). They will be combining both fall festivities and Halloween celebrations. With over 30 craft fair vendors, Live music by Jay Lema, and Halloween-themed mini-photography sessions. After a fun-filled day, AFTER DARK will begin at 6. Where you can explore the maze at night or jump on for a haunted hayride. They will be streaming an outdoor movie and providing late-night concessions. It’s the perfect way to celebrate both the fall season and Halloween.
Although halloween is just one night, Cortland gives you plenty of opportunity to celebrate all weekend long.
