SUNY Cortland will be honoring and celebrating Latine History Month from September 15th through October 15th. The campus is holding several events in observance of Latine History Month, also known as National Hispanic Heritage Month.
September 15th symbols an important day in history. This date marked the independence of several countries including El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Honduras. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16th and 18th. This occasion was first celebrated in 1968 before it was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988.

Tuesday, Sept. 20: Un Verano Sin Ti Karaoke, Corey Union Voice Office, 6 to 7 p.m. Hosted by La Familia Latina and the Caribbean Student Association.

Thursday, Sept. 29: Sandwich Seminar, Puerto Rico – United States Relationship, Old Main Colloquium, noon to 1 p.m. Presented by Lorraine Lopez-Janove, chief diversity and inclusion officer.
Monday, Oct. 3: (Re)Constructing Blackness: Afro-Mexican Racial Formation Across Borders, Corey Union Fireplace Lounge, 3 to 5 p.m. Presented by Roberto Rincon, assistant professor of Africana and Latinx Studies, SUNY Oneonta.
