The coronavirus disease, once again, is beginning to find it’s way back onto the SUNY Cortland campus.
In the more recent weeks we have unfortunately began to see a spike in cases of COVID-19. Residence life has been making statements regarding the situation and informing students of what precautions to take. Student health has been flooded with symptomatic students and rapid tests are being strongly encouraged. Students are being told not to attend class if they are feeling any sort of illness and to follow the most recent isolation policies.
COVID-19 is affecting the everyday lives of students and their educations as they are unable to attend their classes after testing positive. Major events around campus are also being affected including fall sorority recruitment. All the rush events from this past weekend were changed to take place online instead of at the houses. I can confirm that in my classes, attendance this week has been at a low.
President Bitterbaum sent out an email last Thursday saying “You know the best and most common ways to stay safe. Stay up-to-date with vaccines and boosters and consider getting a booster dose. Wash your hands frequently. Wear a well-fitting face covering in public settings. Most importantly, stay home if you are sick. ”
If we want to see changes and the end of the pandemic, we must work together as a community, taking precautions so we continue to have a normal and safe college experience here at SUNY Cortland.
