Graduation is a time of celebration and reflection on the past 4 years of hard work inside and outside of the classroom. Cortland athletics are notoriously known for producing high quality talent as well as high quality people. Ryan Cory is one of the most successful Cortland student-athletes in recent history holding multiple school records and performing just as well in the classroom.
Ryan excelled on the track outperforming his peers and competition again and again. Ryans tenure at Cortland includes an all-American selection, 2x red letter award winner, and 2x school record holder (indoor 3000 and outdoor 5000). He has won multiple regional championships as well as being a member in the SUNYAC hall of fame. He says that his proudest moment was being selected to be an all-American “there was so much that has happened since I’ve arrived on campus in 2019 to get me to that moment”. All the hard work truly paid off for him when he earned that selection it really meant alot to him.
Corys success has not only been on the track but his performance in the classroom is something that should be mentioned. Here at Cortland Cory is a Sport Management major and will be graduating in the top 5% of his class. His hard work earned him President’s and Dean’s list honors. In the future Cory plans to use his degree to get himself into a college athletics department where he will hopefully become an Athletic director. Cory also mentions that he may “go on to earn my MBA and work on the business side of professional sports”
During our interview I asked him to give some advice to incoming students and prospective track athletes looking at Cortland. He mentions mastering skills like time management and staying disciplined to your training during the semester as well as on break.
The most important piece of advice he gave from our conversation was “that there are resources available everywhere here at SUNY Cortland to help you.”
The Cortland track and field program will truly miss Ryan Cory as he moves on to the next stage of his life. The 3 year track athlete has built many relationships with teammates, coaches and teachers that will last a lifetime. He says that Cortland means a lot to him and his time here has really impacted him.
