Cesilia Tucker (b. 2001) is a SUNY Cortland alumna and WNY-based artist that primarily uses oil pastels and paints. Her work (“22”) exhibited in the 2023 Student Select started as a study of interior space and how the use of oil pastels added to the dimension of a space. By the end, it turned into a reflection of her own memory, and less so a recreation of a space. How memory is stored and thus communicated to others, both literally and symbolically, is something she is currently exploring. This interest in memory was spurred on by “22,” one of her first pieces created with this concept as the end result. With this in mind, she would describe her own work as melancholic and hazy. She currently has work in this style exhibited at the Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo, NY and will be part of the 2023 Southern Tier Biennial this September in Olean, NY.
