The leaves contain a pocket like structure on one side of the mid-rib. The mid-rib ends at the tip of the leaf. The leaf has elongated cells around the margin which makes a border that ends just below the tip of the leaf. Capsules are exerted above the leaves and contain a pointed lid.<br \/>\n<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Compared to:<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cortland.edu\/bryophytes\/field-guide\/mosses\/acrocarp\/fissidens-fontanus\/\">Fissidens fontanus<\/a>&#8211; <\/em>Aquatic, pleurocarpous moss, can be found submerged in the gorge.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cortland.edu\/bryophytes\/field-guide\/mosses\/acrocarp\/fissidens-taxifolius\/\">Fissidens taxifolius<\/a>&#8211; <\/em>Mid-rib extends beyond the leaf tip and has no elongated border cells[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fissidens bryoides, Hedw.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=&#8221;0&#8243; images=&#8221;298,300,299,297,759,758&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;img_link_large&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fissidens bryoides is a small terrestrial fissidens which can most commonly be found on shaded rocks along the gorge, it may also be found on soil.
