My last few weeks at the Discovery Center have been amazing. Wrapping up my work has given me a great sense of accomplishment. Needless to say, because I am wrapping up there is a lot of work to be done. As previously mentioned in my last blog, the Discovery Center is celebrating their 35th anniversary in the upcoming weeks.
In preparation for the 35th anniversary I have been working on gaining some more oral history to be put into a PowerPoint that will be shown at the party. The director has set me up with some more of the founding people of the Discovery Center. I interviewed another one of the other “founding mothers” on the growth of their story garden. She also provided me a vast number of pictures from all stages of the story garden, which will also be used in the PowerPoint. In conjunction with that, the director also asked me to create a book to highlight significant parts and growth of the story garden for the public. The book features pictures and brief descriptions of what started the garden and how it became what is today. I have also been working more on the social media account which allows people to upload pictures of them over the years at the Discovery Center. I have been working more in the collections closet finding more pictures for the social media account and the PowerPoint. Overall, I am wrapping on this project and moving toward finishing the Pathway Through History project.
The Pathway Through History project has had many similar components as preparing for the 35th anniversary. For this project I spent the majority of my time in the collections closet again. I was tasked with finding more pictures of the Discovery Center when it was the old garage for the Ross Park Zoo. Many of these pictures were found in the collections closet, but I received some from the local historian and a worker from the Ross Park Zoo. The worker at Zoo, also provided me with original maps of the land that the Discovery Center sits on. All of the pictures accumulated are going to be placed into a PowerPoint and later be turned into a video. I am in the final steps of this project, only needing add some more pictures and create the video.
Overall, my time working on these projects have kept me busy. As stated previously, working on the projects haven given me a great sense of accomplishment and I enjoyed of minute of working on them.
